Our History
MN Geothermal, situated in Zimmerman, MN, is owned by Jason Massmann, who has been involved in designing and installing Geothermal systems since 1995. Jason’s background includes growing up on a family farm in central MN and working in Nebraska as a lineman and apprentice Electrician from 1993 to 1995.
After returning to Minnesota in late 1995, Jason gained experience working for a company in the western suburbs of the Twin Cities for 7 years. He pursued further education in refrigeration through night classes at Dunwoody and various manufacturers’ training programs, while also learning from his now long time friend Brian U., who was the General Manager of UMR at the time.
In May of 2002, Jason established his own company, Massmann Geothermal & Mechanical LLC, starting from his garage with occasional help from his father. Over time, the business expanded, with his father becoming a full-time employee and additional staff being hired as the company grew. Jason met his wife, Angie, in 2007, and they got married in 2010, eventually having three children together.
By 2018, Jason had acquired many customers from his former employer, UMR, when they closed their doors. The business had then grown to 18 employees. However, due to the demands of the business and feeling like he was missing out on his children’s upbringing, Jason made the difficult decision to sell the company in the Fall of 2021 to prioritize spending more time with his family.
After selling the company in the Fall of 2021, he realized the impact it had on his children, especially the youngest who had grown attached to visiting dad and the employees at work. The disappointment they expressed upon hearing about the sale caught Jason off guard, and he also didn’t anticipate how much he would miss the relationships he had formed with both the employees and customers. The first year after the sale was challenging, but he eventually decided to return to work in the Geothermal industry. Jason joined Enertech Global, specifically their Geothermal design department, where he assisted contractors and distributors across the US and Canada in designing Geothermal systems for their customers. It was a rewarding experience to share his knowledge and expertise with others and witness their appreciation for more efficient installation practices.
After enjoying a fulfilling career at Enertech Global, Jason felt a strong desire to return to the contractor’s side of the industry. This urge intensified as he received numerous calls from past customers expressing their longing for the personalized, small-town family-oriented service he provided. Their words resonated with him, and Jason couldn’t shake off the thought. Eventually, in the summer of 2024, he and his wife were determined to reenter the business world and establish MN Geothermal LLC.
